Triphala

Triphala is a natural energizer and tonic in Ayurvedic medicine. As the name signifies tri (three) phala (fruits) is a mixture of three deseeded fruits of high medicinal value namely Amalaki (Embilica officinalis), Bibhtaki (Terminalia belerica) and Haritaki (Terminalia chebula).
Medical benefits: Triphala is sweet and sour in taste. It has a warming effect and builds all round strength. It is beneficial for all the systems of the body.
Triphala is a mild laxative, antibacterial, antioxidant, antiviral and anti-ageing.
It is a digestive and is known to help with constipation. A teaspoon of Triphala powder with warm milk or water taken at night improves bowel movement, cleanses the colon, and improves appetite. It is also Hepatoprotective and improves liver function.
Triphala improves immunity and is beneficial in fighting viral infections such as fever, cold and cough and other respiratory problems.
Triphala helps the cardiovascular system, reduces hypertension, lowers cholesterol, and prevents atherosclerosis. A teaspoon of Triphala with water taken in the morning on empty stomach improves heart function and helps to reduce LDL (bad cholesterol).
It helps treat urinary tract infections, and kidney problems such as kidney stones.
Triphala stimulates the central nervous system, improves mental ability and memory.
It is beneficial in diabetes as it stimulates beta cells of pancreas to produce insulin. It regulates the blood sugar level.
It is a colon cleanser and laxative, removes toxins from the body, prevents cancer and helpful in obesity and to lose weight.
Triphala is also beneficial in female reproductive problems such as dysmenorrhea, vaginal dryness and leucorrhoea etc.
It is used as eye tonic and to clean eyes and beneficial in early stages of cataract, conjunctivitis, glaucoma, myopia and dryness of eyes. Wash eyes with water obtained by mixing 2-3 grams of the powder in a cup water and sieved through a fine cloth.
Contraindications: Triphala is contraindicated to pregnant women, people with liver problems and those taking blood thinners. It should be taken as per medical advice.
